HandScan

Within the Citizenlab, we conducted research on the HandScan. The HandScan is a new device from Demcon Hemics that can measure inflammation activity in the joints of the hand. We did research that focused on check-up appointments and the possible use of the HandScan in these. More than 400 people with arthritis gave their opinion via a questionnaire.

In general, people with rheumatoid arthritis are satisfied with the way inflammatory activity is monitored now (before the COVID pandemic). However, about half of them would prefer more imaging examinations (e.g. MRI, CT, X-rays). In addition, people seem to see added value in the HandScan, mainly because it gives a quick and clear picture of the location and severity of inflammation in the hand.
